Walking Links

From the farm, without getting in your car, you can stroll through the fields to Castlerigg Stone Circle (3/4 mile), or across the valley to the little church of St John's in the Vale (1 mile) and then turn right onto High Rigg or left onto Low Rigg and Tewet Tarn. (pronounced Tyufet).   Map

A more energetic walk through the fields (three miles) takes you to Walla Crag with breathtaking views over Derwentwater, Borrowdale and the western fells.

Another good walk is through the fields and on through Great Wood to the shores of Derwentwater. Then either walk north along the lake shore to Keswick or walk south along the lake and then head for Ashness Bridge and follow the path up over Walla Crag and back to Low Nest.

Bestwalks is a useful site for books on walking in the Lake District (and elsewhere)

Three of the best sites for Lakeland Walks are Andrew Leaney's helvellyn.org, David Hall's LakeDistrictWalks, and Andy Malcom's gateway2thelakes all with excellent photos and maps of hundreds of walks.
